Master of Professional Psychology

Universitas Indonesia’s Professional Psychology Study Program has a goal to create Psychologist that is competent, professional, scientifical , virtuous, and able to apply their knowledge and competency that they have gained throughout their education for the benefit of the people and their own. In this program there exist three specialization program, namely: Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Educational Psychology. Every specialization has their own uniqueness in addition to the common knowledge that will be gained in joint lectres, assessment and psychological Interventions.

Vision

To create the Master Professional Psychology program to be a professional psychologist education institution that is able to compete in South East Asian level in the development and application of research based psychology knowledge.

Mission

  1. To organize a professional psychology education program that creates competent psychologist that is able to do assessment and psychological intervention based on research, able to adapt to the changes in time, professional, scientifical, virtuous, and able to collaborate with other profession.
  2. To create a learning climate that encourage openness, adaptive to changes, and encourage curiosity to carry out research that is connected to the psychology.
  3. Maintain cooperation with communities and institutions in providing psychological services so that they can apply theories, assessment methods, and research-based psychological interventions to improve the welfare and mental health of the community.
  4. Cultivate a positive and collaborative learning climate so as to encourage students, educators, education staff and alumni to continue learning in a sustainable manner.

Competency

  1. Able to develop knowledge, assessment methods, and psychological interventions based on research results.
  • Have adequate knowledge of humans as individuals and part of the system;
  • Understand the concepts, constructs, methods, theories and practices of psychology related to the functions and changes in human behavior from a biological, psychological, social and spiritual perspective.
  1. Mastering theories, assessment methods, and psychological interventions to solve psychological problems.
  • Able to apply various assessment methods and psychological interventions to solve individual, group, community and organizational problems according to the Indonesian psychological code of ethics.
  • Able to identify problems, apply assessment methods, make appropriate conclusions and diagnoses, and apply effective psychological interventions.

 

  1. Able to manage research whose results can be applied in solving psychological problems in the context of individuals, groups, communities, and organizations that are worthy of publication at national and international levels.
  • Able to manage (design, carry out and evaluate) research for scientific and professional development, using quantitative and/or qualitative methods.
  • Able to develop psychological measuring tools including mastery of psychological concepts and constructs, designing and evaluating new measuring instruments, adapting and evaluating measuring instruments.
  • Able to express conceptual thoughts and psychological research results in the form of scientific writings published by accredited national scientific journals and/or accepted by international scientific journals.
  1. Manage psychology services and practices according to the Indonesian psychology code of ethics.
  • Able to carry out verbal communication and writings effectively.
  • Have an innate understanding of ethics and standard in psychologist practice and able to apply them in their job as a psychologist.
  • Have knowledge of applicable laws in providing psychological services, specifically related to psychological problems related to law.

Selection Process

  1. Participate in the first phase of the acceptance test. (Academic Potential Test and English Test)
  2. Participate in the second phase of the acceptance test (Psychotest and Interview), for those that has passed the first phase.

Acceptance Criteria: Passed the first and second acceptance test.

Length of Study: Professional Psychology Study Program is held for 2.5 years (5 Semester).

Semester 2: Preparation for Psychology Professional Practice

Semester 3: Professional Psychology Practice

Semester 4: Professional Psychology Practice

Semester 5: Thesis preparation

Scientific Publications

Psychologist Competency Exam by the Indonesian Psychological Association

Student responsibilities:

  1. Take all compulsory courses
  2. Complete client handling and write client handling reports
  3. Produce 1 (one) scientific article related to the study, as the main author accompanied by a supervisor, which has been accepted for publication in National Journals or International Proceedings
  4. Take the Psychologist Competency Exam
  5. Submit 1 (one) thesis work and take the thesis exam as the final stage of the Professional Psychology Study Program

Academic Title

After graduating from Professional Psychology Study Program, graduates will receive the Master of Psychology title and will be called as a psychologist. Graduates will also gain the Psychologist Practice License from the Indonesian Psychological Association
